Acura ADAS Calibration Cost

Calibration costs depend on your specific Acura model, which ADAS systems need recalibration, and whether mobile or workshop service is required.

Acura ADAS Systems We Calibrate

  • Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) - front radar behind the grille emblem plus windshield camera. Triggers after any bumper repair, grille replacement, or front-end collision. Without recalibration, CMBS may brake late or not at all.
  • Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) - shares the front radar module with CMBS. A 2mm radar shift from a minor fender repair throws off distance tracking at highway speed. Recalibration restores accurate following distances.
  • Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) - windshield-mounted camera reads lane markings. Any windshield replacement resets the camera position. Failed calibration means LKAS pulls you toward the wrong lane or disables itself entirely.
  • Road Departure Mitigation (RDM) - uses the same windshield camera as LKAS to detect road edges. If the camera angle shifts even slightly, RDM can trigger false corrections on curves or fail to activate when the car drifts.
  • Blind Spot Information (BSI) - rear radar sensors in the bumper corners. Rear-end impacts and bumper resprays both shift sensor alignment. Miscalibrated BSI either misses vehicles in the blind spot or throws constant false alerts.

Acura's ADAS platform is built on Honda SENSING architecture, but with tighter calibration tolerances. The dual-camera system behind the windshield is shared across both brands, and technicians who calibrate one need to understand both. The ZDX is the exception - it runs on GM's Ultium platform with a completely different sensor suite.

The Dual-Camera Problem on Acura

Acura and Honda share a dual forward-facing camera (FFC) system that gives calibration shops more trouble than almost any other brand. Field data from ADAS technicians across North America puts the success rate for FFC calibration on aftermarket windshield glass at roughly 30%. That's not a typo. Seven out of ten aftermarket windshield installs on Acura vehicles fail the first calibration attempt.

The root cause is bracket placement. Acura's dual camera mounts to a bracket glued to the inside of the windshield. Aftermarket glass manufacturers don't hold the same tolerances on bracket positioning that OEM Pilkington glass does. The camera sits a fraction of a millimetre off, and that's enough to push the calibration outside spec.

When calibration does pass on aftermarket glass, it often takes 20-30+ miles of dynamic driving to complete. On OEM glass, the same procedure finishes in 3-4 miles. Some experienced technicians refuse Acura dual-camera calibrations on aftermarket glass entirely because even a passing result doesn't guarantee the system functions correctly. The calibration routine can report success while the camera's lane-following accuracy remains degraded.

If your Speedy Glass or local shop installed aftermarket glass and the AcuraWatch warning won't clear, the windshield itself may be the problem. We check glass compatibility before starting calibration and can save you time and money by identifying the issue before running a procedure that's likely to fail.

Why Collision Repairs Trigger More Than You Expect

Honda and Acura have a requirement that catches body shops off guard: any collision - not just front impacts - requires Occupant Classification System (OCS) recalibration. Toyota only demands OCS calibration when a diagnostic trouble code is present. Acura demands it after every collision, regardless.

This creates friction with insurers. Some carriers push back on OCS calibration charges because they don't see it in every brand's repair procedures. But Acura's position is clear - skip OCS recalibration after a collision and the passenger airbag may deploy with incorrect force, or not deploy at all.

A pre-scan before any calibration work is standard practice. Across the industry, 1 in 10 vehicles has a damaged component discovered during ADAS calibration that wasn't identified in the original repair estimate. Good body shops catch 3-4 electrical issues per 10 vehicles on pre-scan. Shops that skip pre-scanning? Six to eight out of ten vehicles arrive with undiagnosed electrical faults that complicate calibration.

Windshield replacement

The most common trigger for Acura calibration in Canada. Speedy Glass handles the install, but the AcuraWatch camera needs recalibration before CMBS, LKAS, and RDM function again. If your glass shop used aftermarket glass and the warning light persists after recalibration, the glass itself may need replacing with OEM Pilkington.

Bumper and grille work

The front radar sits behind the Acura grille emblem. Bumper removal - even without visible damage - can shift the radar bracket enough to throw ACC and CMBS out of alignment. Resprays add paint thickness that changes the radar's detection angle.

Rear-end collision

BSI sensors in the rear bumper corners are precise units. A rear impact that doesn't visibly damage the bumper cover can still shift the sensor mounting points. Add in the mandatory OCS recalibration and a simple rear-end repair becomes a multi-system job.

Calibration Environment and Equipment

Acura's calibration procedures require a controlled indoor facility with a certified level floor. Industry standards call for a minimum 30 by 50 foot space with 5-10 feet of walkway clearance around the vehicle. No windows, no open doors during the procedure, no vibration from adjacent bays. Parking lot calibrations don't meet spec, and uneven surfaces cause failed procedures that waste time.

For BSI (blind spot) calibration on Acura, some technicians use the Autel ADASBAT tool - a roughly C$2,000 unit designed specifically for Honda, Acura, Hyundai, and Kia blind spot module calibration. It's a fraction of the cost of OEM tooling while producing OEM-equivalent results. Aftermarket calibration targets for Honda and Acura actually outperform some OEM targets. Honda's factory targets use PVC material, while some aftermarket suppliers use higher-precision printed panels.

Battery voltage matters during static calibrations. If voltage drops below threshold during the procedure, it fails. Every Acura calibration at our facilities runs with a battery maintainer connected - standard operating procedure confirmed as best practice by 59 ADAS professionals in a recent industry poll.

Common Failure Patterns

Camera failures from heat stress

Acura's windshield-mounted camera failures are increasing across the industry - some shops report 2-3 per week. The pattern is consistent: aftermarket glass combined with heat cycling causes the camera to constantly search for reference points until the module fails. Canadian summers generate enough windshield surface heat to trigger this pattern, especially on dark-tinted windshields.

Dynamic calibration won't complete

A dynamic calibration that should finish in 3-4 miles but keeps running past 20 miles is almost always an aftermarket glass problem. The dual camera can't lock onto lane markings because the glass optical properties differ from OEM spec. Driving further won't fix it. The glass needs to come out.

CMBS and ACC warnings after grille replacement

The radar behind the Acura emblem has extremely tight aiming tolerances. Aftermarket grille assemblies don't always hold the emblem in the exact OEM position. If CMBS and ACC warnings persist after radar calibration, check whether the grille is OEM. A 1-degree aiming error at the radar translates to metres of detection error at highway distances.

Acura ADAS Calibration — Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about ADAS calibration for your Acura

Acura uses a dual forward-facing camera mounted to a bracket on the inside of the windshield. When the glass is replaced, the camera loses its calibrated position. The system needs a professional recalibration to restore CMBS, LKAS, and RDM function. If aftermarket glass was installed, the bracket placement may not match OEM spec, which can prevent calibration from completing until OEM glass is fitted.
