ADAS Calibration for Alfa Romeo models

Dashboard showing "Forward Collision Warning unavailable" after your Stelvio's windshield swap? That's the front camera losing its reference point. Alfa Romeo's IACC and Highway Assist won't re-enable without a full static calibration. We reset it in 60-90 minutes.

Alfa Romeo ADAS Calibration Cost

Calibration costs depend on your specific Alfa Romeo model, which ADAS systems need recalibration, and whether mobile or workshop service is required.

Alfa Romeo ADAS Systems We Calibrate

  • Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control (IACC) - front radar integrated into the bumper/grille area. Triggers after any bumper repair, grille removal, or front-end collision. Without recalibration, the system either shuts down entirely or tracks the wrong lane position at highway speed.
  • Forward Collision Warning with Full Stop / Active Safety Brake - uses the same front radar plus windshield camera. A 2mm shift in either sensor after glass replacement means braking distances change. The system won't warn you. It just won't stop in time.
  • Lane Centering (LC) / Lane Keep Assist - windshield-mounted camera reads lane markings. Speedy Glass replaces the windshield, the camera bracket reseats at a slightly different angle, and LC starts pulling toward the shoulder. Static calibration resets the camera's field of view.
  • Active Blind Spot Assist - rear-quarter sensors behind the bumper fascia. Rear-end repairs and bumper resprays both shift sensor alignment. Stellantis position statements require BSM calibration after any repair near the sensors.

Alfa Romeo sits within the Stellantis group. The IACC and Active Safety Brake share architecture with Jeep, Fiat, and other Stellantis brands - but Alfa Romeo's Giorgio platform (Giulia, Stelvio) uses a unique sensor configuration that doesn't match the rest of the group. That platform split is what makes Alfa calibration different from its siblings.

Two Platforms, Two Calibration Procedures

Alfa Romeo runs on two completely different vehicle platforms in Canada. The Giulia and Stelvio use the Giorgio platform - designed in-house by Alfa Romeo before the Stellantis merger. The Tonale and Junior sit on the CMP (Common Modular Platform) shared with Peugeot, Citroen, and DS. These are not variations of the same car. They're different vehicles with different sensor placements, different wiring architectures, and different diagnostic requirements.

Giorgio-platform cars position the front radar behind a unique grille design. The radar module sits lower and further forward than on CMP vehicles. Body shops that treat every Stellantis car the same miss this. A calibration procedure that works on a Tonale won't produce correct results on a Giulia. The radar aim points differ by several degrees.

The Tonale introduced Alfa Romeo's most advanced ADAS suite. It's the first Alfa with Level 2 Highway Assist as standard - combining IACC with Lane Centering for hands-on highway driving. But because it shares its CMP platform with vehicles like the Chrysler lineup, shops familiar with Stellantis procedures can adapt. Giorgio is the outlier.

Highway Assist Failures After Windshield Work

Highway Assist is Alfa Romeo's headline ADAS feature on Tonale and late-model Stelvio. It pairs IACC with Lane Centering to hold your lane and manage speed on divided highways. The system reads lane markings through the windshield camera and tracks traffic through the front radar. Both sensors must agree on vehicle position within tight tolerances.

After a windshield replacement, Highway Assist typically disables itself within the first few kilometres. The camera bracket reseats differently on the new glass - sometimes by less than a degree - and the system detects the mismatch. You'll see a cluster warning and Highway Assist drops to basic cruise control only. Some owners drive for weeks thinking the system is broken before realizing it needs calibration.

The calibration itself requires static calibration using manufacturer-specified targets. The camera needs a controlled indoor environment with precise target placement. Dynamic road-test calibration alone isn't sufficient for Alfa Romeo's camera systems. The camera must pass a static reference check before the radar can be aligned.

Stellantis Diagnostics: wiTECH or Nothing

Every Alfa Romeo built after 2015 requires Stellantis wiTECH diagnostic software for post-calibration validation. This isn't optional. Without wiTECH, you can aim the sensors but you can't confirm the vehicle's control modules accepted the new alignment values. The car may appear calibrated while the ADAS modules still hold fault codes that prevent full system activation.

wiTECH access runs C$50 per day or through an annual subscription. Most independent shops don't carry it because the Stellantis customer base in Canada is smaller than GM or Ford. Dealer alternatives exist, but at C$800-C$1,200 per calibration visit. We maintain active wiTECH subscriptions for Stellantis vehicles - warning lights that persist after sensor work almost always trace back to incomplete diagnostic validation.

One detail from the field: unauthorized third-party diagnostic tools have confirmed cases of bricking Stellantis instrument clusters. A 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L had its instrument cluster permanently disabled by an aftermarket diagnostic box attempting ADAS functions. The same risk applies to every Stellantis vehicle, including Alfa Romeo. wiTECH exists for a reason.

OTA Updates and Ghost Faults

Stellantis vehicles receive over-the-air software updates that can leave ADAS modules in a partial state. The update downloads but doesn't fully install - and the module sits between firmware versions. No diagnostic trouble codes. No warning lights. The system just doesn't respond correctly during calibration.

wiTECH checks OTA update status as part of its diagnostic routine. If a module has an incomplete update, it flags it before calibration begins. Shops without wiTECH can spend hours chasing a calibration failure that has nothing to do with sensor alignment. The root cause is a half-installed software update the vehicle never finished applying.

Bumper Repairs and BSM Calibration

Stellantis issued updated position statements in February 2026 covering bumper repairs near Blind Spot Monitoring sensors. The requirements are specific: maintain OE paint thickness of 2.5-4 mils, never exceed 12 mils or 3 topcoats, limit repairs to refinish only when possible, and complete post-scan with wiTECH after any work. Repairs that add paint thickness beyond the specified range can absorb or deflect the radar signal, causing false activations or missed detections. The Stelvio's rear blind spot sensors sit close to the bumper edge - body panel work in that area almost always requires recalibration.
