ADAS Calibration for GMC models

Your Sierra's forward collision alert went dark after a windshield swap. The radar behind the grille badge lost its zero point during bumper work. GMC Pro Safety Plus needs a full recalibration before those systems protect you again. We handle it in 60-90 minutes.

GMC ADAS Calibration Cost

Calibration costs depend on your specific GMC model, which ADAS systems need recalibration, and whether mobile or workshop service is required.

GMC ADAS Systems We Calibrate

  • Automatic Emergency Braking - forward radar behind GMC grille badge plus windshield-mounted camera. Triggers after any bumper repair, grille replacement, or front-end collision. Fails silently on some 2020+ models if radar alignment drifts beyond 0.5 degrees.
  • Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert - rear quarter-panel radar modules, one per side. Right BSM communicates through the left BSM module in GM's daisy-chain architecture. If the left module takes damage, both sides go dead.
  • Rear Cross Traffic Alert - shares sensors with BSM. Calibrates as part of the blind spot procedure. Common trigger: rear-end collision or bumper cover replacement.
  • Front Pedestrian Braking - windshield camera identifies pedestrians at speeds below 60 km/h. Any windshield replacement requires static camera calibration with OEM-spec targets.
  • IntelliBeam High Beam Assist - windshield camera function, calibrated alongside Front Pedestrian Braking. No separate procedure needed.
  • HD Surround Vision (Sierra HD) - four cameras (front, rear, left mirror, right mirror). Requires individual aiming after mirror replacement, bumper work, or camera housing damage. Sierra HD fleet vehicles see this frequently from loading dock contact.

GMC runs on the same General Motors architecture as Chevrolet, sharing sensor placements, wiring harnesses, and calibration procedures. The radar sits behind the grille badge in the same position as a Silverado. The windshield camera uses the same bracket and mounting adhesive. But GMC's truck-heavy lineup means larger windshields, higher ride heights, and more fleet exposure than its GM siblings. That changes the calibration math.

The PGW Glass Problem on GM Trucks

In early 2025, a pattern emerged across GM truck calibrations. Two 2025 Chevrolet Silverados failed dynamic calibration because the camera bracket physically detached from PGW-supplied windshields. The calibration process stuck at 0% for 15 minutes before the technician identified the problem. It wasn't a software fault. The metal bracket that holds the rearview mirror and forward-facing camera had separated from the glass itself.

This wasn't an isolated incident. Technicians confirmed a bad PGW batch affecting 2024 and 2025 GM trucks, including the 2500 and 3500 series. The same glass supplier, the same bracket failure. GM issued a service bulletin in April 2025 recommending OE glass only for any windshield replacement involving ADAS-equipped trucks.

Sierra owners face the same risk. The Sierra shares its windshield dimensions and camera bracket with the Silverado. When Speedy Glass or any third-party installer fits aftermarket glass, the camera bracket bond is the weak point. If that bracket shifts even 2mm during curing or fails under vibration, no amount of calibration software will fix it. The glass has to come back out.

We check the bracket bond and camera seating before running any calibration. If the glass is bad, we flag it before you pay for a procedure that can't succeed.

Super Cruise vs Pro Safety Plus - Two Systems, Two Calibration Paths

Some 2024+ Yukon Denali and Acadia models ship with Super Cruise, GM's hands-free highway driving system. Super Cruise is not part of Pro Safety Plus. It's a separate system with its own sensor array, its own calibration requirements, and its own failure modes.

Pro Safety Plus covers AEB, BSM, lane keep assist, and the standard camera/radar package. Super Cruise adds a driver attention camera on the steering column, a precision LiDAR map system, and enhanced forward-facing sensors. When both systems are fitted, a windshield replacement triggers two separate calibration procedures.

The confusion shows up in quotes. A shop quotes for "ADAS calibration" on a Yukon Denali, thinking it's a single camera reset. But Super Cruise needs its own procedure on top of the standard Pro Safety Plus calibration. We identify which systems your GMC has before quoting so the price matches the actual work.

On Buick models sharing the same GM platform, Super Cruise availability is more limited. But the Yukon and Acadia trims that include it need both procedures done correctly or the system locks out entirely.

GM's BSM Daisy-Chain and Why One Hit Kills Both Sides

GM vehicles use a daisy-chain architecture for blind spot monitoring. The right BSM module communicates through the left BSM module. That means if the left rear quarter panel takes a hit and damages the left BSM module, both sides stop working. The right module is physically fine but can't talk to the vehicle because its communication path runs through the left.

This showed up on 2024 Cadillac Lyriq and 2025 Hummer EV diagnostics, but the architecture applies across the GM lineup. Sierra, Yukon, Terrain, Acadia, Canyon. Same wiring topology.

A body shop replaces the left rear bumper cover on a Sierra after a parking lot hit. They don't touch the right side. But the owner reports blind spot alerts missing on both sides. The shop assumes it's a calibration issue and sends the truck for a BSM reset. The calibration fails because the left module has a bent pin from the impact. Pin drag testing on the BSM connector reveals the problem. No amount of recalibration fixes a damaged connector.

We run pin drag tests on BSM module connectors before attempting calibration. If the left module has physical damage, we flag it for repair first. This saves GMC owners from paying for a calibration that was never going to work.

GM EV Architecture Adds Complexity

GM's electric vehicles, including the Hummer EV and future GMC electric trucks, use a different CAN bus topology than ICE-powered GMC models. The sensor communication paths differ. Super Cruise vehicles also carry a TSB for BSM communication issues that's separate from the standard daisy-chain problem. Diagnosing BSM faults on a GM EV requires knowing which bus architecture the vehicle uses before plugging in.

MDI2 Authentication and What It Means for GMC Calibration

GM actively blocks counterfeit MDI2 diagnostic interfaces. The genuine MDI2 from AC Delco costs roughly C$1,000. Shops running cloned units get blacklisted by GM's server. The tool connects, the vehicle identifies it as counterfeit, and the calibration procedure locks out.

This matters for GMC owners because a shop using a blocked MDI2 can't complete the calibration. The vehicle throws communication errors that look like a module fault. The shop might chase wiring problems or replace modules when the real issue is their diagnostic tool got flagged.

Aftermarket J2534 interfaces are not affected by the MDI2 blocking. Tools like the Bosch J-Box and Cardaq Plus 3 work on 2024 and newer GM vehicles. But GDS2 software paired with a genuine MDI2 remains the most reliable path for newer GMC trucks. It eliminates many software-related calibration issues that aftermarket tools struggle with on late-model GM.

We use verified, GM-authenticated diagnostic equipment. No counterfeit lockouts. No ghost fault codes from tool authentication failures.

GMC ADAS Calibration — Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about ADAS calibration for your GMC

GMC uses a daisy-chain architecture where the right BSM module communicates through the left BSM module. If the left rear quarter panel takes damage and bends a connector pin or damages the left module, both sides lose communication. The right module is physically fine but can't reach the vehicle network. A pin drag test on the left BSM connector usually identifies the problem.
