ADAS Calibration for MG models

MG Pilot warning lit up after a windshield swap on your ZS EV? The Bosch front camera lost its reference point. Your AEB, lane keep and cruise control won't function until the system is recalibrated. We handle MG Pilot resets from C$299 across Canada.

MG ADAS Calibration Cost

Calibration costs depend on your specific MG model, which ADAS systems need recalibration, and whether mobile or workshop service is required.

MG ADAS Systems We Calibrate

  • Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) - uses the Bosch front radar mounted behind the grille or lower bumper. Any bumper repair, grille replacement or front-end collision shifts the radar bracket. Without recalibration, ACC sets incorrect following distances or disables itself entirely.
  • Active Emergency Braking (AEB) - shares the forward-facing camera behind the windshield with LKA. A windshield replacement changes the camera's mounting angle. Even half a degree of tilt can delay braking response or trigger false activations in stop-and-go traffic.
  • Lane Keep Assist (LKA) - reads lane markings through the same windshield-mounted camera. Misalignment after glass work causes phantom lane departure warnings or fails to detect lane boundaries on curved roads at highway speed.
  • Blind Spot Detection (BSD) - rear-mounted radar sensors in the bumper corners. Rear-end repairs, bumper replacements or parking damage can shift sensor position. A miscalibrated BSD either misses vehicles in the blind spot or triggers false alerts on every lane change.

MG is part of the SAIC Motor group. Unlike European or Japanese brands with decades of ADAS history, MG's system architecture relies on Bosch-supplied modules across the range. The front radar module and ESP/EPS integration all come from Bosch, which means calibration requires VDS (Vehicle Diagnostic System) access rather than generic OBD tools. This Bosch dependency is consistent across the ZS, MG4 and HS platforms.

Bosch Radar Behind the Grille - Why MG Calibration Is Different

Most drivers don't realize their MG has a radar module tucked behind the front grille badge. It's not visible from outside. But it's there, and it's the brain behind ACC and forward collision warnings.

The problem starts with minor front-end work. A grille clip breaks during a bumper respray. A body shop removes and refits the front fascia after a parking lot tap. The radar bracket shifts by 2-3mm. That's enough to throw off distance calculations at 100 km/h.

MG's Bosch radar operates on 77GHz frequency and measures distance, speed and angle of objects ahead. When the mounting shifts, the radar's field of view tilts. ACC might brake too late, too early, or not at all. AEB can lose its ability to distinguish a stopped car from a road sign.

What makes MG different from most brands is the VDS requirement. You can't calibrate MG's Bosch radar with a generic scan tool and a target board. The radar aiming procedure needs VDS software to access Bosch's proprietary alignment parameters. Most independent shops don't carry VDS. Dealers charge C$800-C$1,200 for the same procedure we complete from C$499.

The Windshield Camera and MG's EV-Heavy Lineup

Every MG sold in Canada right now is either fully electric or hybrid. The ZS EV, MG4 EV, MG5 EV, HS PHEV and EHS PHEV all use a forward-facing camera bonded to the windshield glass. That camera feeds LKA, AEB and traffic sign recognition.

When Speedy Glass or any other shop replaces the windshield, the original camera mounting bracket gets transferred to the new glass. But the adhesive bond angle changes. The camera's vertical and horizontal alignment shifts. MG Pilot doesn't self-correct for this. It needs a static calibration with OEM-spec targets positioned at precise distances from the vehicle.

The ZS EV is the highest-volume MG in Canada and the most common model we see for windshield camera work. Its camera module sits higher on the glass than the MG4's, which means the adhesive cure angle is more sensitive to temperature during installation. A windshield fitted in a cold shop bay can settle differently once the vehicle warms up and the defroster runs. That settling is enough to shift the camera's vertical aim by a fraction of a degree.

Cold Climate Complications

Canadian winters add a specific challenge for MG's camera system. The windshield camera sits close to the defroster vents. Repeated freeze-thaw cycles stress the adhesive bond between camera and glass. Some shops see the camera bracket shift gradually over the first winter after a windshield replacement. The symptoms are subtle at first - LKA stops working in light rain, or AEB throws a false alert on a clear highway. By the time the driver notices, the misalignment has been building for weeks.

Road salt spray is another factor. MG's front radar sits low, behind the grille or lower bumper depending on the model. Salt buildup on the radar cover can degrade signal quality over a season. A radar that was perfectly calibrated in October may read short by spring. This doesn't always trigger a fault code - the system just becomes less accurate, braking later or losing ACC lock on the vehicle ahead in heavy traffic.

Aftermarket Glass and MG

MG's relatively new presence in Canada means OEM windshield glass supply can be inconsistent. Some shops fit aftermarket glass that doesn't match the original curvature around the camera housing area. The camera calibration completes, but the distortion at the lens edge causes MG Pilot to misread lane markings on gentle curves. Always confirm the replacement glass is OEM-spec before calibration.

The MG4 is especially sensitive to glass quality. Its camera housing sits in a recessed pocket on the windshield, and aftermarket glass that's even slightly thicker around that pocket can put pressure on the camera bracket. The result is a calibration that passes the static test but drifts within a few hundred kilometres of driving. If your MG4 was recently reglazed and LKA starts pulling toward the shoulder on highway curves, glass fit is the first thing to check.

Why MG Owners Choose ADAS Line

  • VDS-Equipped for MG - we carry the diagnostic software needed for Bosch radar aiming and camera calibration on every MG model sold in Canada. Most independent shops don't.
  • Fraction of Dealer Cost - MG dealers charge C$800-C$1,200 for a full MG Pilot recalibration. We start at C$299 for windshield camera work and C$499 for radar.
  • Certified Technicians - every calibration is performed by certified ADAS technicians using OEM-spec targets and procedures.
  • Service Centres Across Canada - service centres across Canada mean you're never far from a calibration appointment, whether you're in Toronto, Vancouver or Calgary.
  • All MG Models Covered - from the MG3 Hybrid to the MG4 EV and Marvel R, we calibrate every MG Pilot system currently on Canadian roads.

How MG ADAS Calibration Works

  1. Get a quote - tell us your MG model and what triggered the need. Windshield replacements and front bumper repairs are the two most common reasons MG owners contact us.
  2. Book your appointment - windshield camera calibration takes 60-90 minutes. Radar aiming takes 45-60 minutes. A full system reset covering both camera and radar runs 90-120 minutes.
  3. Drive away calibrated - you get a calibration certificate confirming every MG Pilot system has been reset to factory specification. Certified work your insurer can verify.

MG dealers in Canada typically charge C$800-C$1,200 for a full MG Pilot recalibration. The wait time can stretch to 2-3 weeks at busy dealerships, especially in major cities. We offer the same OEM-spec calibration from C$299, usually within a few days of booking.

MG ADAS Calibration — Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about ADAS calibration for your MG

Yes. Every MG with MG Pilot has a forward-facing camera bonded to the windshield glass. When the glass is replaced, the camera mounting angle changes. AEB, LKA and traffic sign recognition won't work correctly until the camera is recalibrated using static targets at OEM-specified distances.
